Totman wins academic excellence award
by Robert Curtin
LYNNFIELD — Lynnfield High School senior Alissa Totman has been named
the recipient of the Superintendent’s Award for Academic Excellence.
Superintendent of Schools Robert Hassett presented her with the award at
Tuesday night’s School Committee meeting, with Totman’s parents,
Joseph and Lauren, in attendance.
Totman is in a long tradition of Lynnfield High School top students who
are able to juggle academics, activities and athletics with seeming ease.
Her grade-point average is 4.8, and her academic load ensures that she
will be well prepared for any of the top-rank colleges she’s considering.
As a junior, she too three advanced placement classes and achieved the top
score of 5 on each of those AP tests. This year, her schedule includes five
more AP classes and Spanish V Honors.
She’s already won the Dartmouth Alumni Club Award, the Honors Chemistry
Award, the AP History Award and the AP Chemistry Award, and will surely ad
to that list as graduation nears.
When she’s not studying, Alissa has been a member of the soccer track
and math teams and the National Honor Society, and her clubs and activities
include Habitat for Humanity, Spanish, Recycling, Diversity, Environmental,
and Cooking.
Her performance on the PSAT made her eligible for the National Merit program.
She plans to pursue a career in the medical field.
